News:

  1. We wish you a safe and happy holiday season!!  We look forward to seeing everybody back on January 8th, 2018 which is a blue day.
  1. Kids Talk Information:  Indiana Senate Bill 355 was passed in the spring 2017 state legislative session, and this bill requires all public schools in the state of Indiana to provide all children grades K-12 with child abuse education. The attached document explains in more detail how GC schools plans to comply with this mandate. Please note in the letter the date and time of the parent information night.
  1. GOTCHA Drawing: Congratulations to Jeanna B., who was our Gotcha 2nd nine week grand prize winner. She selected the walkie/talkies which leaves the television, wireless speaker, and portable dvd player for next semester.
  1. Yearbook Group Pictures will be held January 10th. Please be sure to where your group t-shirt and/or MIS Cougar attire.
  1. CURRENT 5th GRADE PARENTS – PLEASE READ:

Vaccination Opportunity:  The Hancock County Health Department will be hosting a vaccination clinic at GCHS on January 9th and February 12th. Both clinics will run from 2:30pm-7pm. Your student must be accompanied by an adult to receive vaccines during this clinic. For the 2018-2019 school year, students in the sixth grade are required to have two Hepatitis A, a meningococcal, and a Tdap vaccine in order to be compliant with state requirements. Hepatitis A vaccines must be given six months apart, so you can attend the clinic in January to receive the first dose and then follow up with the second dose in July prior to the start of school. The HCHD generally offers open clinics prior to the start of school, but you can also call and schedule an appointment or use your regular healthcare provider to receive vaccines. Due to the six month period that must pass between Hepatitis A vaccines, you should start NOW to ensure your student will not be excluded from attendance next school year. This is a walk-in clinic, no appointment necessary!

  1. ISTEP Preview:  The opportunity for your child to show us what he/she has learned will be here before we know it.  The Indiana Department of Education has developed a website where parents can view sample ISTEP+ items.  We would encourage you to take a look at this site and discuss the importance of the exam with your child.

New this year:   ISTEP+ Online Tutorial – this walks you and students through the set-up of the test as well as the tools that are available for students to use.

These sample items can be found at: http://download.pearsonaccessnext.com/in/in-practicetest.html?links=1

  1. Breakfast & 2 Hour Delays:  In the event of a 2 hour delay this year, breakfast will not be served on these days.  This is due to the fact that upon student arrival our lunch staff will already be in the process of prepping lunch.
  1. Clinic Reminder:  All medication, including over the counter, requires a request to administer document to be completed and brought to school by a parent or guardian.  The request to administer form as well as quite a bit of other health related information can be found at the following link: http://www.gcsc.k12.in.us/?page_id=590.  Please note that cough drops are exempt from this policy.
