MIS News 10/27/2012

Family Nights at MIS — Fall semester literacy and math nights are set.  Please mark your calendars for November 12 (Family Literacy Night) and December 19th (Family Math Night).  Both will begin at 6:30pm on these evenings and last for an hour.  Be on the lookout for more information regarding these events.

Parent/Teacher Conferences — Thanks to all of the parents who attended P/T Conferences Thursday evening.  We had a great turnout and are looking forward to seeing everyone else on Monday evening.

Election Day Information — Election Day Information for voters and car riders – If you happen to vote in our building, use the east entrance directly into the gym.  In addition, we ask that you not park along the north or south curbs between 7-8:30 am and 1:30-2:30pm as we need these areas for drop-off and pick-up purposes.  If you will be dropping off or picking up your child on this day, we will use door #8 which is the east door of the cafeteria (one door west of your normal drop-off location).

Fall Break — In observance of fall break, the school will close beginning yesterday at 3:30 and will re-open on Monday, October 22nd.

Immunizations — If your child’s immunizations are not up to date, you have been contacted by Mrs. Dingman and Mr. Whitaker.  If this is the case, you need to submit these prior to Tuesday, October 23rd, or your child will be excluded from school.

Red Ribbon Week — We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week on October 24-26.   Red Ribbon Week is a nationally recognized campaign developed to help educate children on the importance of saying “no” to drugs.

Fall Break — In observance of fall break, our school will close beginning at 3:30 on Friday, October 5th and will re-open on Monday, October 22nd.  Please plan accordingly.  Below are a few community camps that you may want to consider.

Student Health Information — If your child’s immunizations are not up to date, you have been contacted by Mrs. Dingman.  If this is the case, you need to submit these prior to Tuesday, October 23rd, or your child will be excluded from school.

Textbook Payments — Just a reminder that textbook payments are due in full by October 1.

Flu Shot Fridays — The Free Flu Shot Fridays will be held at the Hancock County Health Department.  Anyone age 19 or older is welcome to attend these clinics, so please spread the word.

MIS Phone Numbers — The MIS main school phone number is (317)326-3121.  Please note that any previous numbers you may have used for Maxwell in the past will not work, as our phone system has been upgraded.

Air Conditioning Issues – as many of you have probably heard from your child, we have had air conditioning problems this week.  As of yesterday afternoon, I was informed that the issue was located and the part needed was on order.  They were fairly positive barring any unforeseen issues that the system would be up and running prior to our return on Monday morning.

Book Fair – Thanks to all of you who visited the book fair last evening; also thanks to those of you who sent money to school with your children for the book fair throughout the week.  Another big thanks to all who volunteered to work the book fair; our librarian, Mrs. Elsbury, greatly appreciated the help.

Student Council News — Congratulations to the following students who were elected officers:

President – Elaine H.

Secretary – Zoe W.

Treasurer – Olivia H.

 Volleyball Information – The G-C Lady Cougars volleyball team will be honoring all of our Little Cougars volleyball players at next Tuesday’s match, 9/11, beginning at 6:00 pm when the Lady Cougars take on conference rival Mt. Vernon.  All girls who participated in either our Little Cougars Volleyball League in February or in our camps in May or July are encouraged to come and be recognized down on the floor prior to the start of the Varsity match.  Please wear your league or camp shirt and you will get free admission to the evening’s matches.  Be sure to sign in at the door to ensure your name is read during the recognition ceremony.

Fall Book Fair — The book fair will be held next week during the school day.  There will be a Family Night hosted on Thursday, September 13th from 6-8pm.  We invite everyone to come visit.

PTO News PTO Meeting- Thursday Night 6:30pm in Room 101 – 1st classroom on the left past the library.  On this evening, Sheriff Michael Shepherd will be making a presentation to parents regarding the Defender Watch program.  We have placed Mr. Shepherd at the beginning of the agenda so please stop by should you be attending the book fair.

 

 They will be collecting General Mills Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels.  Please feel free to send these in as you accumulate them.

Labor Day – No School on Monday, September 4

Financial Assistance — If you would like to apply for assistance for textbook rental and lunches, please send your application to school prior to September 12, 2012.

Book Rental Reminder — Book rental was due August 1, 2012.  If you would like to defer payment until October 1, 2012, please make sure you have a deferred payment on file with Mrs. Yeager.  Book rental should be paid in full no later than October 1, 2012.  Thank you for your cooperation.

PTO News — They will be collecting General Mills Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels.  Please feel free to send these in as you accumulate them.

Parent/Teacher Conferences — Parent-Teacher Conference dates have been set for October 25th/29th from 4-7pm. We would like to see 100% attendance at these so please keep these dates in mind as you are planning events. If not already received, please be on the lookout for information regarding this event.

Student Health — If you have not done so already, all 6th grade parents need to complete the attached CHIRP form as well as supply immunization records as soon as possible.  If you have an appointment to get shots, Mrs. Dingman needs to have the date on record.

PTO News — The MIS PTO will be collecting General Mills Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels.  Please feel free to send these in as you accumulate them.

We have gotten off to a great start this school year.  We appreciate your support in this effort.

Student Handbook Parent Sign-Off – In your child’s Friday/Monday folder you will find this form.  Please review your child’s handbook, which is also available online, with them.  Please sign the form and return  it to your child’s homeroom teacher.  Should you have any questions regarding our handbook, please feel free to contact us. Dress Code — We realize it is warm as we start the year; however, we kindly request, as you review the handbook with your child, that you pay special attention to the dress code on page 12.

PTO News — The PTO will host the first meeting of the year at 6:30pm in the library on August 16th.  We are still in need of officers.  If interested, please contact the office.

Josh Bleill Visits MIS — We had a wonderful convocation Tuesday morning.  Mr. Josh Bleill came to speak with our students about Respect, Responsibility, Positive Attitude, and overcoming unexpected setbacks in life.  Please ask your child about his message.

Emails — Our spam system will pick up emails of which we have never sent an email to the account first.  Please note that we cannot check our “spam folder” until the next business day. Therefore, if you have a time sensitive message (ie. a bus change) a phone call is a much better way to go, or we will be a day late making the change.
