News:

  1. We would like to thank all students, parents and staff for a great start to the 2017-18 school year.
  1.  NWEA Testing will begin next week.  (see attached letter for more information)
  1.  Picture Day (NOTE CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS EMAIL): Picture Day will be held on August 16th.  You will be receiving a packet regarding this next Friday.  In addition, this packer will include information to allow you to order online.
  1.  Spell Bowl:  Does your child enjoy spelling challenging words?  Do they enjoy competing?  If so, they may want to become a member of the 2017 MIS Spell Bowl Team!  Spell Bowl is a competition where students are challenged to spell words in a written format.  MIS is looking for students to form a 4thgrade team and a combined 5th/6thgrade team.  Please contact Mrs. Tilley (atilley@gcsc.k12.in.us) for more information!
  1. We have tried to provide multiple forums for you to obtain information regarding what’s happening at MIS.

–  The team pages on our website (http://mis.gcsc.k12.in.us) will likely be of great interest to you this year.  Teachers will be posting to their respective pages weekly.  These updates occur on Friday afternoon or Monday morning depending on the grade level.

  1.  School Dismissal Manager(https://www.schooldismissalmanager.com/SchoolAdmin/default.asp?login=session) –  MIS will again be using a web based service called School Dismissal Manager. The purpose is to enable you to easily and securely inform the office regarding your wishes for your child at dismissal time. The system will provide a more organized and efficient tracking system for end of day dismissals. It is intended to replace the notes and phone calls to the office that let us know of changes to your plans for your child(ren)’s dismissal. School Dismissal Manager is the place for you to inform MIS of the means of transportation intended for your son or daughter each day.

You will receive a welcome email providing you with your username and password to access this secure system.  We are hopeful that you find this to be a more convenient process.  ANY transportation changes from normal procedure must be done prior to 1:00pm through the system.  We understand that things happen after this time.  Therefore, if you need to make a change after 1:00pm, you will need to contact the office as you have in the past.

News:
 
1.  Online Registration via Powerschool is still open.  If you are the parent of a returning GC student, please complete this in Powerschool prior to Open House.  Once you have completed the registration, you will be able to view your child’s schedule which includes his/her locker # and combination.
2.  Open House (6:30-7:30pm on the evenings listed below):
     – Plan to meet teachers, visit classrooms and try out lockers.  This is a great night to place items in lockers so that students don’t have to
       haul it in on the bus.
     – Registration WILL NOT be available on this evening.
     – To make the evening run smoother, please:
         – Know your child’s homeroom teacher’s name
         – Write your child’s locker number/combination down
4th Grade:  Monday, July 31st
  Teachers will be present in classrooms.
5th Grade:  Wednesday, July 26th
  Teachers will be present in cafeteria.
6th Grade:  Thursday, July 27th
  – 1 to 1 Computer Information will be presented at 6:45 & 7:15 – please plan to be in your child’s homeroom class at one of these two times.     – We will also have our Technology Integration Specialist available in room 214 to answer any questions that you may have

2017-2018 School Year!

 

We would like to welcome everybody to the 2017-18 school year. We hope that you have had an enjoyable summer and are looking forward to returning. We have been working hard to get prepared for the upcoming school year and wanted to share some information with you in preparation for your return. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the office at (317)326-3121.  The office will officially open Tuesday, July 18th at 8:00am.
 
 
1. Maxwell Drop off/Pick up Information: Again this year, you will enter the drive west of the football field off of 500 North. The drop off point will be located at the northeast doors (Gym). You will loop around and exit onto 500 North. If it is a possibility, we would encourage as many of you to head west on 500 North to eliminate some of the congestion on State Road 9. In addition, the drive on the far north of our property (in past years this was the entry for drop-off/pick-up) is now for bus traffic only. There should be no parent traffic on this drive.

– For CURRENT GC Students, online registration will open on Thursday, July 20th for the 2017-18 school year through PowerSchool. To register your student(s), logon to the PowerSchool parent portal, access your parent account, and follow the prompts.
 
  **Once registered, you should have access to your child’s schedule, locker number and combination.  Please
      be sure to print this or write it down to cut down on the lines during open house.
 
– For students NEW TO GC (please spread the word to any of your new neighbors with school-aged children), we will be open for walk in registrations on Thursday, July 20th from 12:00-7:00 p.m.

– Textbook Rental:  We would like to remind you that book rental payment is due no later than the first day of school. If you are on deferred payment, then the due date will be September 15th this year. At this time, we are not able to take online payment; therefore, we will have staff available to collect payment (cash or check) during open house should you like to take advantage of this opportunity. Otherwise, please send with your child on the first day of school.
 
5. 2017-18 Open House/Meet the Teacher Nights
 
On this evening, you will meet your child’s teachers.  Your child will also have the opportunity to practice opening lockers and place items in them should they desire to do so.  Again, we encourage you to print or hand write your locker number/combo as well as your schedule to save yourself from standing in line waiting during the open house event.
 
4th/5th Grade parents, please note that there is no formal presentation per se on either of these evenings. Therefore, if you can’t make it until the last 15-20 minutes, you will still get the same opportunity to see the building/classrooms and meet the teachers.  
 
– 6th grade parents, we will have information presented regarding the 1 to 1 computer program starting this year.  You can view this at either 6:45 or7:15 in your child’s homeroom classroom.

-If you plan to attend a field trip at any time during the year or volunteer in your child’s classroom, we would encourage you to complete this as soon as possible. If you have not completed and passed this background check, you will not be able to participate in these events. It is at no cost to you so if you even remotely believe you might like to help out, please do this now. There is nothing worse than telling you in May that you cannot go on a trip with your child because this process has not been completed. Again, please take care of this now.

Jr. High Cheerleading Try-outs!

Try-outs for junior high cheerleading will take place on June 13 and 14 from 5-7pm in the jr. high gym.  To participate in try-outs, students must have turned in an athletic physical to the junior high office and completed required online paperwork at rankonesport.com.  Questions can be directed to Mr. Sincroft at the Jr. High.

News:

  1.  Last MIS News of the Year:  The last student day will be Friday, May 26th; however, this will be our final edition of the MIS News for the 2016-17 school year.  We appreciate all of your support and efforts in making this a great year.  We wish our 6th graders nothing but the best as they move on to the junior high.  We look forward to seeing our 4th/5th graders back on August 2nd.  Have a great and safe summer!!!
  1. 2017-18 Registration: Walk-in registration will occur on July 20th from 12-7pm.  All new families to GC are asked to attend.  Current GC students will be able to register online thus avoiding the lines.  Stay tuned this summer for more information regarding the date this will begin.
  1.  2017-18 6th Graders: Our 6th graders will be one-to-one with technology (Chromebook) next year.  Please plan on attending the 6th grade open house night on July 26th from 6:30-7:30 to learn more about this opportunity as well as signing the appropriate paperwork so that your child can receive his/her chromebook on the first day of school next year.  An opportunity to learn more about insuring the chromebook will also be presented on this evening.
  1. Last Day of School/Awards Day:  Please note the time changes listed below to lunch times.  We will be recognizing Honor Roll (All A, A-B) as well as perfect attendance.  Please know that we define perfect as just that, “without blemish.”  If a student has missed a day, part of a day or left early/arrived late, they are not eligible for this award.

Teachers will also be recognizing academic award winners in content areas.  The parents of these students should have been contacted by the classroom teacher that their child would be receiving one of these classroom awards.

VIOLIN CLASS FOR 7th GRADERS AT GCJHS – sign-up by May 24!

Your rising 7th grader is eligible to sign-up for Violin Class at GCJHS. Greenfield-Central is proud to be expanding the Strings Program into the 2017-18 school year, and will now offer 7th Grade Beginning Violin, 8th Grade Intermediate Violin, and GCHS String Ensemble. This is a great opportunity for your child to develop a life-long musical talent. More details can be found in the attached letter and information sheet, or on the Violin Class WebPage.   1. Clinic News:  Any medications stored in the clinic must be picked up by the end of the last school day. State law prohibits us from sending it home with students.  Any medication left in the clinic after this time will be disposed of properly.

  1. PTO News:  First off, a big thanks to our PTO and other parent volunteers who provided all of the goodies last week for our teachers in honor of teacher appreciation week.

      2017-18 Officers:  We greatly appreciate the continued support of our PTO.  At yesterday’s meeting, the following were selected to lead this group next year:

Morning Drop Off:  When dropping off your student/s in the parent pick up line, we would ask that you have your child exit the car directly onto the curb.  Students who exit the vehicle into the drive and walk around their car may risk injury from other vehicles moving in the drive.  We also ask that you be patient and not pull around unloading cars.  Please also remember that the bus lot is closed to vehicle traffic from 7:30-7:50 in the morning.  We ask that you use the parent drop off line, instead of the bus parking lot.  Dropping off a student off by the curb in the bus area creates an unsafe situation for both your student and our bus riders.  If you have a special circumstance, please contact the main office in advance to arrange for appropriate parking or feel free to use the guest parking spots on the southwest side or the far south spots near 500 N.

News:

  1. Variety Show:  What a great show!!  We have some very talented kids.  Congratulations to those who performed.  We would be remiss if we didn’t commend the students in the crowd for their great behavior.  Thanks to all who joined us today.
  1. Yearbooks: There are additional yearbooks for sale if you did not originally order one.  They are $15 for a soft cover and $20 for a hard cover.  They will be sold on a first come- first serve basis.  No additional books will be ordered.  We will not hold books so students and/or parents must have money at the time of purchase.
  1. Art News:  The tie dye class had to be cancelled today due to weather.  Therefore, they will be joining the marble paper printing class which will be held on Thursday, May 11th from 2:15-3:30. Students participating in either project should meet in Miss Muehl’s room after school. The marble paper printing class will be using shaving cream and food coloring to create unique marble printed paper and cards. Prepare to get messy! Students do not need to bring in items for this project.
  1. GCJHS Cafeteria News:To the parents of outgoing 6th graders, Greenfield Central Junior High School will not allow students to have any lunch charges during the 2017-2018 school year.
  1. MIS Cafeteria Reminders:  a.  All Fruits and Vegetables will be Manager’s Choice and not the exact fruit listed for the remainder of the year, and b:  Chef Salads will still be available as an alternative meal; however, side salads listed on individual days will be changed to Managers Choice Vegetable.

If you have an outstanding debt with the cafeteria, we kindly ask that this be taken care of soon.

  1. Clinic News:  Any medications stored in the clinic must be picked up by the end of the last school day. State law prohibits us from sending it home with students.  Any medication left in the clinic after this time will be disposed of properly.  In addition, medication administration forms and care plans for the school year 2017/2018 are now available in the clinic at MIS or on our website.
  2. Camp Invention:  Greenfield-Central is proud to partner with the National Inventors Hall of Fame for another fun summer; J.B. Stephens Elementary School is pleased to offer the nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention program to children entering grades one through six. Camp Invention is an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Children will worktogether to seek solutions to real-world problems, turn ordinary into extraordinary and sharpen critical 21st century learning skills while rotating through several fascinating modules.   1. Schoolstore.com:  Thank you to everyone who participated in our Schoolstore.com fundraiser.  We greatly appreciate you support.  We would appreciate your continued support by shopping online through this website.
  2. Morning Drop Off

When dropping off your student/s in the parent pick up line, we would ask that you have your child exit the car directly onto the curb.  Students who exit the vehicle into the drive and walk around their car may risk injury from other vehicles moving in the drive.  We also ask that you be patient and not pull around unloading cars.

Please also remember that the bus lot is closed to vehicle traffic from 7:30-7:50 in the morning.  We ask that you use the parent drop off line, instead of the bus parking lot.  Dropping off a student off by the curb in the bus area creates an unsafe situation for both your student and our bus riders.  If you have a special circumstance, please contact the main office in advance to arrange for appropriate parking or feel free to use the guest parking spots on the southwest side or the far south spots near 500 N.

News:

1.  Variety Show:  Our annual variety show will occur Friday at 1pm.  Parents of those participating are welcome to join us.

2.  ISTEP Testing: We greatly appreciate our students’ efforts over the last seven days.  The majority of make-up tests have been completed at this time.

4.  Outdoor Art: After School Projects

Miss Muehl will be hosting a tie-dye project after school for Maxwell Intermediate Students. This project is open to  any student who currently attends MIS.  Students will be staying after school on Wednesday May 3rd OR Friday May 5th from 2:15 – 3:30 for this activity. Students will need to bring in their own item to be tie dyed – examples: shirts, tank tops, canvas bags, white shoes (for spray dye), socks, etc.

Miss Muehl will also be hosting a marble paper project after school on Thursday, May 11th. For this activity, students will be using shaving cream and food coloring to make marble paper. It’s sure to be messy and a lot of fun.

Both activities will be happening outdoors, weather permitting. If the weather is bad, new dates will be scheduled immediately.

Permission slips need to be signed and returned to the office no later than MAY 1ST. 

NO LATE PERMISSION SLIPS WILL BE ACCEPTED. NO EXCEPTIONS. Students must turn in a permission slip; a phone call or email will not be accepted as permission for this activity. 

**Depending on interest, the size of the group may have to be limited based on return time of permission slips.
